Stampin' Up! Buffalo Check Goes Plaid

Hello and Happy Tuesday! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I have a fun project to share with you today using one of my favorite stamps, the Buffalo Check background stamp from Stampin' Up! I just love the versatility of this stamp and in today's project, I made it into a plaid background by using a ruler and a Stampin' Write marker.

To begin, I started with a standard card base of Early Espresso cut 8.5" x 5.5", I then cut a piece of Whisper White 4" x 5.25" and stamped it with the Buffalo Check background stamp and Mango Melody. Then, using a ruler and the Early Espresso marker, I drew lines down the center of the Buffalo Check rows containing white squares, I then turned the paper .25 turn, and repeated with the ruler and the marker. I adhered this panel to the card front then punched the cat from a scrap piece of Early Espresso and added a double bow from Linen Thread to the cat's neck. I then stamped the sentiment from Rooted In Nature using Early Espresso ink onto a piece of Whisper White cut .5" and trimmed it down and added to the card front.

That completes today's project. I hope you enjoyed it and I hope it inspires you to pull out your Buffalo Check stamp and begin playing with it. See what other patterns you can come up with and feel free to share. I'd love to see what you do.
Happy Stamping,

Black Ice with Winter Woods

Good Morning and Happy Thursday! I have another fun technique card to share with you! This one is using the Black Ice technique that has been really popular this year and I finally decided to give it a try. So, here it is:

This card was a lot of fun to make using one of my most favorite stamp sets in the Holiday Catalog of all time. (I really do adore these "nature" sets with trees, leaves etc. and this one is no exception)

Anyhoo, to create this card, I started with a standard card base of Basic Black, measuring 8.5" x 5.5" scored and folded at 4.25" a layer of Smoky Slate 4" x 5.25" and a second piece of Basic Black measuring 4.25" x 3.25" and the focal piece, Silver Foil paper measuring 4" x 3". Using Black Stazon ink, I dragged the ink pad down the foil paper, doing one side at a time, then turning 1/2 turn and doing the same. Allow the ink a moment to dry, then stamp the row of trees from the Winter Woods stamp set also in Black Stazon ink. Again, allow a moment for the ink to dry, then drag the Versamark ink pad over the entire image and then coat with clear embossing powder. Using the Heat tool, melt the embossing powder. This creates the icy look.

Attach the stamped image to the Basic Black layer and add it to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals. The effect of this technique is quite stunning and dramatic, unfortunately, I was not able to capture just how stunning in the photograph, you'll just have to try it to see for yourself. I promise you won't be disappointed!

Happy Stamping,

Thumping with Rooted in Nature

Happy Tuesday! Fall is in the air, and you know what that means right? Yes, it's pumpkin spice everything time of year! My two favorite scents and flavors of Fall are Pumpkin Spice and Apple and what's even better? When my friends at Yankee Candle mix them together to create the heavenly scent of Apple Pumpkin! OH-EM-GEE! I LOVE this scent!

Oh, before I forget, Saturday is World Card Making Day and at Stampin' Up!, we're celebrating ALL week long with a special sale! Download the flyer here.

Anyway, in addition to my favorite scent being available this time of year, it also inspires me to pull out those beautiful nature inspired stamp sets such as Rooted in Nature. And with the cool crisp morning air and the changing of the leaves taking place outside my window, I was inspired to play with a technique I haven't done in a few years, called "Thumping".

So, I pulled out my Stampin' Write Markers and the Rooted in Nature stamp set and went to work. And this is what I came up with:

I started with a standard card base of Old Olive measuring 8.5" x 5.5" scored and folded at 4.25". I added a layer of Cajun Craze measuring 4" x 5.25" and a layer of Crushed Curry 3.75" x 5" and a second piece of Cajun Craze measuring 4.25" x 3.25". I then cut a piece of Whisper White 4" x 3" and inked up the large tree from the Rooted in Nature stamp set in Pear Pizzazz ink, then I colored in the tree trunk with the Early Espresso marker, taking care to add in some Early Espresso where I could see branches through the leaves. I then took the Crushed Curry marker and "thumped" it around the stamp, followed by Cajun Craze, Cherry Cobbler and Shaded Spruce Stampin' Write Markers. I then "huffed" the stamp well to moisten the ink that may have started to dry onto the stamp and stamped my Whisper White piece. I layered it to the Cajun Craze layer and added this to the center of the card. I then stamped the sentiment in Cajun Craze onto a scrap piece of Whisper White and punched it out using the punch from the Christmas Traditions Punch Box set found in the Holiday catalog and layered it with a circle punched from Cajun Craze with a 1.5" circle punch and popped this up with a Stampin' Dimensional.

I hope this card inspires you to pull out your Stampin' Write markers to give this technique a try. It's a lot of fun and packs a bit of a punch in your card making skills. I hope you enjoyed today's card and hope you will join me later this week or another fun technique. Wishing you a great Fall week ahead and Happy Stamping!

Stampin' Up! Tags and Tidings in the Spotlight

Wow, Fall seems to have come in with a bang here in Central New York. Today was a rather blustery damp rainy day. I'm so not ready for Summer to come to an end, but ready or not, here it comes. But I do also love the color changes of the leaves, Pumpkin everything along with warm cozy fuzzy sweaters etc. but, I just wish we had a few more weeks of Summer. Anyhoo, last weekend we held our first annual full day retreat and OH MY we had a FABULOUS time. We had lots of fun and LOTS of creating. I really wish you could have been there..maybe next year?

Well today, I want to share a fun card I did using the Tags and Tidings bundle from the Holiday catalog. This fun set actually creates 16 adorable tags with one stamp and one die! But, going "outside the box" I created a fun Christmas card with the stamp and die. Using the die, I was able to "spotlight" an area on the card front and it looked pretty cute.
To create this card, I started with a standard card base of Old Olive measuring 8.5" x 5.5" scored and folded at 4.25". I then cut a second layer of Old Olive measuring 4" x 5.25" and stamped the tag images in Old Olive ink. I attached this layer to the card base using Stampin' Dimensionals. I then stamped the tag images onto Whisper White with Real Red ink and ran them through the Big Shot with the coordinating die. I then took the tag with the sentiment, "warm wishes" and threaded 1/8" Real Red ribbon through the  tag hole and tied a bow. I added it over the same Old Olive image using Dimensionals. This was a quick and simple card that was fun to create. I will be doing some more playing with this one as I'm sure there is more that can be done with it, so stay tuned!
In the meantime, Happy Stamping,
