Does your Christmas card list seem to grow faster than your free time? Mine certainly has a way of doing that! Between the people I send cards to and the names my husband adds, I like having designs I can repeat without turning the craft table into an all-day project. A little planning now makes December feel much more manageable.
For this week’s Stampin’ Sundays with Katrina, I made four easy Christmas cards with the Timeless Christmas Suite Collection. We usually make three cards, but these layouts were simple enough that I added a fourth. There is no complicated coloring or fancy fold to learn. Pretty paper, readable greetings and a few thoughtful details do the work. If you are new to cardmaking, these are approachable places to start; if you have been stamping for years, they are useful designs for a growing mailing list.
Let Coordinating Paper Start the Design
One of the easiest ways to reduce decision fatigue is to choose your patterned paper first. The Timeless Christmas paper gives these cards a traditional feel with green polka dots, red plaid and holly leaves and berries. I used Peaceful Pine, Poppy Parade and Basic White cardstock to carry those colors through the projects.
You do not need to use every pattern on one card. Pick one main print, then give it room to shine. A white greeting area helps busy paper feel balanced, and a narrow metallic strip adds a finishing touch without another complicated layer. Before you glue anything, lay the pieces on the card base and check that the greeting has enough breathing room.
Start With the Polka Dot Card
The first Tis the Season card is a lovely option for beginners or anyone making several cards at once. Start with a standard white card base measuring 8½ by 5½ inches, scored at 4¼ inches. The green polka dot paper is 3¼ by 4¼ inches, and the red metallic strip is ½ by 4¼ inches.Stamp the greeting near the top of the white card front in Peaceful Pine. Add the patterned paper across the bottom, then place the metallic strip immediately above it. Finish with the adhesive holly leaves and berries. That little cluster adds interest without requiring you to stamp and cut tiny shapes. The broad white area keeps the bold greeting easy to read.
Give Simple Layers a Little Texture
For the second card, I switched to a Peaceful Pine base and a holly paper panel measuring 3¾ by 5 inches. A large white scalloped label creates a clear focal point for the same Tis the Season greeting. Dimensionals lift the label, and a small holly embellishment finishes the corner. Inside, stamped leaves and Poppy Parade berries make the writing panel feel connected to the front. The Making Spirits Bright card uses a different balance: a 2 by 5½ inch plaid strip at the left edge of a white base, followed by a ½ by 5½ inch gold metallic strip. The scalloped greeting label overlaps those pieces, and white textured ribbon is tied around the label. My practical reminder from the Live? Tie the ribbon before adding the Dimensionals! It is much easier than removing them and starting again.
Turn Two Squares Into a Paper Present
The fourth card is a little gift made from paper. Layer a 2¾ inch white square onto a 3 inch Poppy Parade square. Cross two gold metallic strips, each ½ by 3 inches, over the squares to look like ribbon. Pop the present onto the holly background, then add a small scalloped A Gift for You label.
This layout is useful beyond Christmas, too. Swap the background for birthday paper and choose colors for the recipient. The present shape and greeting still work beautifully. Save the measurements with your favorite sketches so you can come back to them when you need a quick birthday card.
Make Your Christmas Cards in Batches
Instead of completing one whole card at a time, try an assembly line. Cut all your bases first, then all the patterned panels and metallic strips. Stamp the greetings together, attach the paper together, and finish with embellishments. Start with a small batch so you can check the layout before preparing a larger stack.
For my October Free with Purchase class, U.S. customers can place a $40 order before shipping and tax at shop.katrinascreativeheart.com by October 15. I will send the materials for all four cards, with kits shipping by October 20. You will use your own stamps and ink.
And if you would enjoy some company while you create, join Craft n Chat on Microsoft Teams Friday, October 16, from 7 to 8:30 PM ET. It is free, any craft is welcome, and being on camera is optional. Bring your project. Bring your drink. Come as you are.
