Have you ever finally found a little time to craft, only to feel too tired to color, die-cut, and coordinate a dozen supplies? Or maybe your original plan simply refused to cooperate? That was me this week! I had an entirely different project planned, but one missing stamp set sent me back to the drawing board. Instead of giving up, I reached for the Harvest Hues Mix & Match Ephemera Pack—and these three easy fall cards came together beautifully.
If your craft time is limited or a full table of supplies makes you feel overwhelmed, this style of cardmaking may be exactly the creative breather you need. The pieces are already printed, coordinated, and self-adhesive, so you can enjoy arranging a design without starting every detail from scratch.
Why Ephemera Is a Beginner Cardmaker’s Friend
The Harvest Hues pack includes six sheets—two each of three designs—with cozy autumn images such as pumpkins, leaves, flowers, books, a latte, pie, acorns, and mushrooms. The pieces feel substantial because they are printed on cardstock, not flimsy sticker paper.
Best of all, they remove several decisions at once. You do not have to wonder which colors coordinate or how to color every image. Simply choose a focal piece, add a few smaller accents, and let coordinating Designer Series Paper do the rest. That makes ephemera especially helpful when you are new to cardmaking, short on time, or simply low on creative energy.
Card 1: A Grateful Pumpkin Parade
For the first card, I layered a copper-foiled sunflower paper onto a Thick Basic White card base, then added a Basic White strip across the lower portion. A cheerful row of pumpkins became the focal point, with an acorn, leaf, and mushroom tucked around it. The small “I’m so grateful” banner from the Banner Sayings Stamp Set finishes the card without competing with those colorful pumpkins.Beginner tip: Keep the main ephemera piece flat, then pop up only the sentiment with Stampin’ Dimensionals. You will get a little depth without making the layout complicated or bulky.
Card 2: Send a Paper Hug
The second design combines a warm foiled pattern, a narrow strip of floral Designer Series Paper, and a cozy stack of books topped with flowers. The “Consider Yourself Hugged” greeting turns it into the perfect card for someone who needs encouragement, comfort, or a little reminder that she is loved.
You may notice that I smudged the greeting on my first sample. I left it there on purpose to show you that even experienced cardmakers make mistakes. A small die-cut or punched sentiment placed over the smudge will fix it easily. Your card does not have to be perfect to make someone feel cared for.
Card 3: Coffee, Pie, and Easy Layers
For the final card, I started with a Mossy Meadow card base and mixed three narrow patterns from the Sunflower Fields Designer Series Paper. A white Nested Essentials die-cut created a quiet landing place for the greeting and the cluster of latte, pie, leaves, and mushrooms. When your patterned papers feel busy, add a simple white shape behind your focal pieces. It gives the eye a place to rest and helps every little detail stand out. Repeating colors across your paper, ink, and card base also makes the finished card feel intentional—even when the assembly is wonderfully quick.
A Simple Formula You Can Use Again
Try this easy card recipe the next time you need a quick creative win:
Choose one larger ephemera piece as your focal image.
Add one or two coordinating Designer Series Paper patterns.
Use a neutral panel or die-cut shape to calm a busy background.
Tuck in two or three small accents to create a cluster.
Finish with a short greeting and raise one element with Dimensionals.
That is all you need. These three cards prove that simple does not mean plain—and changing plans does not mean losing your chance to create.
Which card is your favorite: the pumpkin card, the cozy books, or the coffee-and-pie design? Leave me a comment and tell me! Save this post for the next time you need a fast fall card, and be sure to download the coordinating tutorial so you can craft along with me.
